Türkiye stuns the USA!

This is The Sports Reset for Friday, June 26th.

At the World Cup, Türkiye beat the United States 3 to 2 at SoFi Stadium on a 98th minute goal. The United States gave up three goals in a group-stage game on home soil, but the bigger picture stayed intact: the United States had already won Group D and now turns toward the knockout round. Ecuador also clipped Germany 2 to 1, while the Netherlands handled Tunisia 3 to 1 and Sweden drew Japan 1 to 1.

In MLB, the Boston Red Sox beat the New York Yankees 6 to 3 at Fenway Park, and the Houston Astros edged the Detroit Tigers 2 to 1 in a tighter one. In WNBA, the Toronto Tempo rolled past the Los Angeles Sparks 125 to 97. In golf, Eric Cole won the Travelers Championship at 7 under, and Ina Yoon took the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship at 9 under.

Resetting to today, the World Cup keeps the front seat with France against Norway, Spain against Uruguay, and Belgium against New Zealand. Cape Verde also gets Saudi Arabia. Those are the games that shape the next wave of group-stage pressure.

In MLB, the New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox run it back at Fenway Park after Boston’s 6 to 3 win, while the Los Angeles Dodgers visit the San Diego Padres and the Philadelphia Phillies face the New York Mets in two games with plenty of public-interest pull. The Astros and Tigers also meet again after a one-run game Thursday. Meanwhile the league’s latest bargaining proposal drew a sharp union response with the current CBA expiring December 1.

In WNBA, the Atlanta Dream visit the Golden State Valkyries at Chase Center, the Washington Mystics visit the Connecticut Sun, and the Portland Fire go to the Chicago Sky in a useful check-in on the league’s newer teams.
