Liberty lift the Cup!

New York finished the job at home, and the eight-point margin gave the night a clear lead result before the baseball slate took over.

In World Cup Round of 32 soccer, France handled Sweden 3 to 0 at MetLife Stadium, Mexico beat Ecuador 2 to 0 at Estadio Banorte, and Norway edged Ivory Coast 2 to 1 at AT&T Stadium, sending three teams through while three more saw their tournament end.

In MLB, the Philadelphia Phillies shut out the Pittsburgh Pirates 8 to 0, one of the sharper wins of the night. The Detroit Tigers also made noise at Yankee Stadium, beating the New York Yankees 9 to 3 in a result that stood out because of the opponent and the setting.

Resetting to today, World Cup Round of 32 soccer gets top billing, especially with the United States facing Bosnia-Herzegovina at Levi’s Stadium. That is the American game of the day because it is a knockout match, and the winner keeps moving while the loser is done.

The LA Dodgers are also back against the Athletics after a 9 to 3 win, and the New York Mets visit the Toronto Blue Jays after a 3 to 0 shutout.
