Paraguay changes everything!

World Cup soccer owned Monday, led by Paraguay sending Germany out in the Round of 32 after a 1 to 1 draw and a 4 to 3 penalty shootout. Julio Enciso put Paraguay ahead, Kai Havertz answered, and goalkeeper Orlando Gill turned the night by saving two German attempts before Jose Canale finished it. Germany also had a potential extra-time winner wiped away, so the result everyone will be talking about is both the upset and the exit. Brazil survived Japan 2 to 1 when Gabriel Martinelli scored in the 95th minute, after Casemiro had pulled Brazil level. Morocco also advanced, beating the Netherlands 3 to 2 on penalties after a 1 to 1 draw.

In golf, Viktor Hovland won the Travelers Championship at 22 under, holding off Scottie Scheffler by one shot and Collin Morikawa by two.

In MLB, the Detroit Tigers beat the New York Yankees 7 to 3, the LA Dodgers handled the Athletics 9 to 4, and the Chicago Cubs edged the San Diego Padres 3 to 2 at Wrigley Field.

Looking ahead, the WNBA has the title game of the day: the Las Vegas Aces visit the New York Liberty at Barclays Center for the Commissioner’s Cup Championship, with trophy stakes attached to a matchup between two of the league’s headline teams.
