United States sets the tone!

The biggest result from Friday came in World Cup group play, where the United States beat Australia 2 to 0 at Lumen Field. Brazil also beat Haiti 3 to 0, Morocco edged Scotland 1 to 0, and Paraguay beat Türkiye 1 to 0.

In MLB, the New York Yankees shut out the Cincinnati Reds 5 to 0, the Los Angeles Dodgers got past the Baltimore Orioles 6 to 5, and the Atlanta Braves beat the Milwaukee Brewers 3 to 2. In WNBA play, the Toronto Tempo outlasted the Connecticut Sun 101 to 97, and the Washington Mystics beat the New York Liberty 86 to 83.

Looking ahead, World Cup group play continues today with Sweden against Netherlands at NRG Stadium, Ivory Coast against Germany at BMO Field, and Curaçao against Ecuador at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium. The matchup to watch is Sweden versus Netherlands, as another established soccer name has a chance to set the pace after the United States and Brazil both won Friday.

In MLB, the New York Mets visit the Philadelphia Phillies, the Baltimore Orioles get another shot at the Los Angeles Dodgers, and the San Diego Padres go back to Texas after a 9 to 7 loss to the Texas Rangers. In WNBA action, the Indiana Fever visit the Atlanta Dream, while the Seattle Storm face the Phoenix Mercury.

In golf, the U.S. Open continues with Wyndham Clark at 7 under, and the Meijer LPGA Classic continues with Jing Yan at 10 under.
